Ahhh! Summer in the city.......... Okay, it's not really summer but I was in the city, the "hood" to be exact! I-75 and I-94 were a parking lot because the Tigers game was finished right before it's time to go home from work. I decide to take a top street ( Gratiot Ave ) and I find myself driving next to a Ford Windstar minivan that has the sliding door OPEN!. This has got to be the ghetto spin on air conditioning. I am NOT trying to start an argument. I am trying to see if anyone agrees. As some people know me and most do not, I am extremely patriotic. However, I refuse to say the Pledge of Allegiance, because I find it flawed.
Why is the word "indivisible" in the pledge when the States have a right to succeed?

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

And while there are many valid and worthy reasons to object to the pledge, taking contention with a bit of 'romantic optimism' regarding the persistence of the Union is...low on the totem poll. The pledge was born in a period that saw America survive a near-fatal civil war, so you can perhaps forgive the author for his rose-tinted glasses; he was surely drawing on the sentiment of the 'nation divided against itself cannot stand' as stated by Lincoln and, uh, Jesus.
