What you all dont understand, the theft that happens in the stores, it's not worth getting hurt trying to stop someone for a few bucks, and they don't get paid to stop shoplifters. Also the stores don't lose money from theft, after there inventories they total there loses and raise prices on there products and charge the customers extra to cover the loses, plus they can write it off as losses on there yearly taxes, no loss. They just charge dgraff and phart more money for shoes and food

That is what happened when Democrats had the House, the Senate and the presidency under Bill Clinton in 1994, and that is what happened under Barack Obama in 2010.
Politicians and media focus a great deal on drama, personality and conflict. That's how they define politics. That is not my view. Politics is nothing more complicated than delivering policy that positively impacts the lives of working families.

Vermont’s socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders has been pushing the national Democratic party to extremes. But his own constituents don’t seem to want to come along for the ride leftward. As Mr. Sanders rolls out a plan to increase death taxes (among many other tax hikes he’s proposing), a burgeoning movement in the Green Mountain State has been pursuing tax reform to stem the tide of fleeing Vermonters.
Mr. Sanders remains highly popular in Vermont and won another landslide re-election last year. But his policies are a tougher sell even in this bastion of granola leftism. Last year a Journal editorial reviewed the experience of Vermont in pursuing the signature health care idea of its most famous socialist:
Maybe Democrats should have looked at the results in Vermont when Bernie’s home state tried to set up single payer. A Democratic Governor abandoned the idea in 2014 once he was looking at an 11.5% payroll tax, plus a 9.5% income tax, and more increases to come. Progressives couldn’t even get single payer up and running for about 625,000 people in a state with a decent health profile.
Now Mr. Sanders is flogging a plan to extend federal death taxes to cover many more people and at rates as high as 77%, up from the current top rate of 40%.
But at the state level Vermonters are considering more death tax cuts. Last month Republican Gov. Phil Scott said in his annual budget address:
In 2016 while Mr. Sanders was off campaigning against financial success, Vermont’s state lawmakers were limiting the bite of the state’s punitive 16% death tax by exempting the first $2.75 million. Now Mr. Scott wants to move the exemption up to $5.75 million. He understands that people who have worked and saved all their lives are free to retire in any state they choose. “Vermonters impacted by this tax are well-advised from tax professionals, and they are highly mobile,” says Mr. Scott.
This week Rob Roper of the Ethan Allen Institute makes the case for a complete repeal of the state’s death tax:
There would likely be quite a few candidates from just the Boston, New York, Newport, Greenwich areas who would jump at the chance to escape their local tax man and take in Vermont foliage season at the same time. These are people who will then build and renovate houses (construction jobs), eat in restaurants, shop in local stores, donate to and volunteer in local philanthropic entities, such as EMT services. They would be paying Vermont income taxes, sales taxes, rooms and meals taxes. How gratifying would it be to see New York Governor Andrew Cuomo complaining that Vermont, not Florida, was stealing his taxpayers. We don’t need all of them. We’re small. We just need a few.
Vermont’s problem isn’t just old people leaving. Regardless of age, Americans don’t want to move into a jurisdiction with one of the country’s ten worst business tax climates, as rated by the Tax Foundation. This month Gov. Scott explained what he calls a demographic crisis:
...from April 2009 to the time I took office, we had, on average, six fewer workers in our workforce every single day... from the start of 1997 to the time I took office, we had, on average, three fewer students enrolled in our K-12 schools every single day.
In December, University of Vermont economist Art Woolf shared more cheery news in the Burlington Free Press:
The number of Vermont women in their prime childbearing years has been falling which means the number of births will continue to fall. Couple that with one of the nation’s lowest fertility rates and it is almost guaranteed that deaths will outnumber births every year for the foreseeable future... since 2010, 10,000 more people have left Vermont than have moved in from other states.
To sum up, enacting just a portion of the Sanders agenda has been a crushing failure for Vermont.
Meanwhile in Washington this week there’s a helpful reminder that while Mr. Sanders rants about the “billionaire class” and giant multinational corporations, his opponents include many smaller businesses, too. A broad coalition representing companies and farms of various sizes is urging repeal of the federal death tax on the grounds that it reduces capital formation and triggers huge compliance costs while raising little in federal revenue. The letter from the Family Business Coalition to repeal champions Sen. John Thune (R., S.D.) and Rep. Jason Smith (R., Mo.) notes that even prominent liberal economists have published work on the tax’s “stifling effect” on jobs and growth.
Call Vermonters crazy for re-electing Bernie Sanders. But they appear sane enough to realize they can’t afford his ideas.

These plans provide a safety net for people, so they can make a life for themselves and benefit society. These policies will work much better for normal people, than the trickle down policies that the Republicans have pushed for years and have never worked.

I don't consider nuclear power a renewable energy source, because uranium is mined too and that also emits CO2. Nuclear waste storage is a big problem and if something happens you are making your land uninhabitable.
While nuclear is only 8.5% of your energy mix, you have 80 nuclear waste sites all over the US. You keep talking about cars, but transportation is only 28% of your total energy consumption.

That pipeline was already stopped by Obama. Trump started it again, but Biden said many times that he would stop it as soon as he could. Why? Because a majority of people, and a large majority of democrats, appose the Keystone XL pipeline.
That's democracy and they are right. Progress is not made without some sacrifices. However, as i said before, investments in renewable energy create much more jobs.
If companies then still invest in that pipeline, than they are to blame for their own loss.

I don't need a politician telling me how to think,I look at the real world. Have you ever welded? Do you know or realize how many years it takes to be certified and good enough at your job to be welding on a pipeline like that? A neighbor did that kind of work.Made his fortune actually after the 3 mile island incodent welding in auxliary cooling lines in nuclear plants.There is a file cabinet in his office with all the certificates he earned to do that kind of work.He is lucky enough to be able to have retired about a year ago.
But those welders out there,48 years old or so,about 10 more years before they can retire,have got to go without work for HOW LONG may I ask,before they can be "trained" in these new "green Jobs"? How many will loose their homes?

The climate will be fine.Your scientist didn't volunteer their time for those studies.They were paid to persue proof of 1 agenda or another.
Even when we went from horse to car,wagon and buggy makers were able to build bodys and beds for chassis during the transistion period back in the early 1900's. Time and free enterprise did it.Horse and buggy are still legal on all hwy's except interstates.Even after a 99.999999999---- % transision to mechanical transportation,there is still allowance for primitive transportation,such as horse and bike.
What I care more about is if jobs have a positive effect on the world. I'm sorry for the cigarette factory workers, when people stop smoking, but I still prefer the latter.
I do think the government should help people when whole industries get demolished, but did they do that for people that saw their jobs outsourced? Companies make those decisions all the time, just for their own profit. I think it's much more warranted to make decisions that might impact jobs, for the good of all mankind. You're always talking about people pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, but somehow you won't say the same for people working in the fossil fuel industry.
Did you know it was scientists employed by the fossil fuel companies themselves who first warned about the effects of carbon-dioxide surplus in the atmosphere? That was in the 1960's. It's all just basic math and physics, not hard to understand. It's only the precise quantification, statistics and prediction models that require scientists.
You have never answered the question if you see the changes to nature yourself. Even if you believe it's just the weather, do you at least concede that it is different now than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago? If you 'look at the real world' and don't see what's happening all around you, than I'm not impressed with your observational skills. That would be pretty weak for an engineer.
We have hot summers,cold winters,nothing much as changed in my opionion. Old timers in their 80's-90's will tell you things are a bit differnt as winters don't seem to be as cold,but I am only 54 and didn't pay any attention for many years.I can't complain if it doesn't get as cold.Hurts my bones!
Depending on if you believe in creation or the big bang theory,as to if the earth is still cooling down from being a molten blob of shit that came out of nowhere. I honestly think it is very prudish and snobbish of the human race to think they can change something as large and complex as the earth. Has the climate changed in the Sahara dessert in the past 100 years?

Why would you care so much about the price of progress and care so little about the price of capitalism. Don't you understand that capitalism is the reason for why all your production jobs got outsourced? It is the reason a person can work 80 hours a week on two jobs and still can't pay rent or that a CEO can decide his stock portfolio will go up if he fires half his employees and make the rest work twice as hard.
I'm not a welder, but I helped my father with some maintenance on their rusty boat. That was enough to know welding is a skill, but a skill I have no use for at the moment. If I need something welded, I just hire a specialist. I do have some technical skills, because I've worked on mopeds and cars as a hobby. I can also build computers, I've made a few circuit boards and have done some programming as a hobby, since the age of 10.
I'm a biotechnology engineer. I have worked in several different laboratories, doing analysis, research and processing. Now I'm part of the support team of a big company, doing projects, innovation and problem solving. Everything we do follows the scientific model. We do experiments and analysis, everything is documented and peer reviewed. When we solve problems or do improvements, we make sure to implement the best solution by doing problem analysis and cost-risk-benefit analysis. I don't need to know everything, because I work with specialists. By using logic, structure and the knowledge of others, I can make well informed decisions on topics I don't even know a lot about.
If you can only learn anything about the world from your own experiences, than your mind is very limited. That's not how my mind works. That's why I know I have studied the subject of climate change more than enough to know that the science of it is correct.
