it is painfully obvious now to me that there is a problem with the way voting is done.All 50 states have their own rules for voteing and elections.
Which seems to be logical for their state office postions but when voting for a national postion,such as president,the rules should be the same nationaly so there is less room for confusion and problems.
And WHY IN THE HELL didn't these states count those mail in ballots as they came in so the results could be had on election night or at least in a day or 2?
AND what are they doing in Pencilvania that they don't want observers to see with these mail in ballots?

Went early this morning!

Got their about 1 hour before polls opened, was like 50th in line many many more after me by the time I got in. The line looked to be about an 1/8 of a mile or more down the street. NEVER have I seen that many people!

Not the UK, no, just England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have devolved governments which are running their own responses to Covid19. We will technically be in lockdown from Thursday 5 November until December 2. Except education and essential shops and possibly construction and manufacturing (awaiting clarification on that ). He has extended his 'Furlough ' scheme , paying a high percentage of employees wages BUT at this point there has yet go be any financial help for the millions of self employed ( who in my opinion were treated badly first time round too ). There has yet to be any mention of financial aid to business.
Living in one of the least worst hit areas through the initial lockdown and in the current wave, I do feel aggrieved and feel harsher ' local ' lockdowns should have been the answer. I also feel that , yes, it may get the infection rate down in time for Christmas but if large groups meet at Christmas and New year ( which they will i have no doubt ) then in January rates will start to rise again

Areas in the North of the country have had very high cases for a few months and , in my humble opinion, they should have had what the whole country has now and also I'm going to single out Manchester here, the Mayor has delayed the inevitable lockdown they had by nearly 3 weeks by arguing with the govt. I get his point about financial aid etc but he should have conceded the lockdown was inevitable and worked for the financial aid package once lockdown was in place. The govt forced Manchester into locksown anyway ..so the delay has cost lives. Why should areas with a very low infection rate be forced into a lockdown and potential financial hardship because of other areas of England? Seems deeply unfair to me AND on top of the lowest rates, due to limited international travel, our area still kept our infection levels low when the area was absolutely jammed packed with tourists during the summer , some who freely admitted ' they were glad to get away from the virus'

Absolutely Phart, its not miraculously going to go away. Yes it appears we are getting closer to a vaccine but even that will need to be given every year , like flu.

The thinking behind our lockdown isn't so much that it will go away, the thinking is to protect our NHS from being overrun. The only issue being other things are ignored, like cancer treatments, alcohol abuse. The idea is if we can get transmission down then the NHS can cope but what happens post lockdown if no vaccine is available?? Oh I know ( and come on doesn't take a viral expert to work it out ) , yep transmission will rise once more and back to square one we go....

You mentioned your area being "jammed packed with tourists" in the summer. When did your lock down ease up? In Michigan, it wasn't until approximately mid July when we could dine in a restaurant.

Initially some sectors went back to work on May 11th , and I think it was beginning of June that hospitality reopened and we had an influx of many more tourists than we do in a normal year. On top of that, because we were encouraged to exercise but no restriction was put on how far you could travel , so even in the middle of our lockdown people were still visiting our beaches and national parks.

Other than essential workers, the UK was initially locked down/shut down for 2 months. I'm sure that there were people who were able to work from home, but what about those that could not? What about the hair and/or nail salons, barbershops, restaurants, cinemas, etc, how did they fare?

From the initial lockdown on Mar 27 up until about May 11th, only essential business ( keyworkers ) was to be open, for example hospitals , agriculture, food shops and schools to look after the children of essential workers. The govt did a two tier payment of £10000 to very small business and £25000 to larger firms , plus they introduced the furlough scheme at 80% wages , and a scheme for self employed that wasn't nearly as generous. There was no extra help over and above this to your average barber, mailshot etc, some of the really big firms got govt money but from what I know none of the smaller. However there were loans available that the government would 'guarantee ' . The bars and restaurants were able to start back quite quickly and the govt introduced a ' eat out to help out ' where a meal would be half price ( up to a certain value). The nail bars and salons were the last to open and the first yo be closed.

Interesting, but now I have more questions. Are you able to further explain the 80% furlough? When your bars and restaurants opened, was that full, in-house service? Let me explain, in Michigan, McDonald's was considered an "essential business" and remained operational throughout by operating as drive-thru only. To the best of my recollection, it was mid June when our Governor started lifting restrictions on restaurants and bars, these businesses were operating on a takeaway basis. I live in a very small town, and at this time, I cannot walk into McDonald's, although there are two small restaurants and one restaurant/bar where I can walk in with a mask, sit down and unmask and eat a meal. It was approximately mid July when our health club, Anytime Fitness was permitted to open, patrons must wear mask and it was only two or three weeks ago that our library opened. The library reopening is quite unique, you wear a mask, you can select your book, magazine, video and leave. The computers are not available, there are no chairs to allow you to sit down and read. Heck, I'm not sure whether you can even walk into a bank and conduct banking business at this time.

As for financial assistance given to the businesses or citizens, I know that I received a $1200.00 stimulus check that I felt that I didn't deserve.

The 80% furlough meant that the govt would pay 80% of employees wages a week, up to a certain amount. The theory was to try and stop huge unemployment levels.
Bars and restaurants initially operated a take out service and then , providing they had ' covod secure ' measures in place they could then open fully but at a greatly reduce capacity indoors. After period of time, we then had a 10pm curfew on bars , and table service only. All fast food outlets initially closed here , including McDonalds. I think it was initially late May , early June when the drive thrus opened and much later for eat in ( I haven't been anywhere near a McDonalds to be able to answer this 100% accurately). Restaurants , in September went to masks for all staff and customers whilst moving about the restaurant, once seated the mask could be removed. As goes Libraries and banks I have absolutely no idea!
