Dan Rather's views on the Helsinki Summit.

There has been no shortage of historic summits in American history - but nothing like what is happening today.
No American president has ever appeared as a supplicant to a foreign power who attacked us - an attack that the intelligence community says is ongoing.
No American president has been so eager to placate a hostile foreign power. And no American president has been under a credible shadow of allegedly conspiring with a hostile foreign power.
No American president has so attacked our allies and heaped scorn on his fellow citizens while heaping praise on a hostile foreign power.
No American president has been so ill-prepared for diplomacy and statecraft and then insisted on handling negotiations with a hostile foreign power alone.
We do not know what was discussed. We will not be able to trust what President Trump or Putin say was discussed. Their words fail even the most minimum standards of political truth telling.
This is a historic summit indeed, but historic in terms of the damage it can do (and likely already has done) to our nation and a democratic world order.

I'm independent and don't vote along party lines. I didn't vote for Trump as I considered him to be the least qualified candidate on the ballot. Didn't vote for Hillary, either. But I did vote for Johnson/Weld for as they were the most qualified candidates on the ballot.

It should be apparent that Trump is not only a moron, but incompetent as well! He's only the president of "FOLLYWOOD, D.C." not Washington D.C.

If you think America is in trouble, you ain't seen nothing yet. If you look at the African continent, South Africa is the last part of the continent that actually did grow food. That sadly is coming to an end. Land reform is a joke, it cannot work. Starvation is the only future I see. The world is in for a shock.

At the moment the US could supply them with alot of stuff the Chinese don't want to pay for.

There is no money to pay for food import. It has been stolen and shipped out.

I don't get why if de Klerk was the last white president in office why haven't subsequent black prime ministers haven't taken care of the issue since he left in 1994. I also read that the new President, President Cyril Ramaphosa, "said" that he will accelerate it. I hope he at least tries.

I am thankful to be Canadian every day. I wake up with freedoms and "luxuries" that some people can only dream of: electricity, running water, food, health care, freedom to go where I like, say what I want, associate with and love who I want all the while living in a country that protects those rights for me. 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦

I feel sure if those folks dug around they would find some oil or some diamonds or something they could trade.
Hell, for all that matter just send some food over to help them survive for a while. It would at least be eaten or used unlike aid to Haiti .There is still plane loads of supplies rotting there from years back.

The biggest problem is that he is, and never was, a politician. News reports that apparently show how he "allegedly" treated my Queen earlier this week also show what a miserable excuse for a human he is.

That he isn't a politician is perhaps the only good thing about him. Well, that and the fact that he isn't Hillary.

That is why he was elected. He was not in the "clic".Not a politician. He is a business man and the US was headed for Bankruptcy.
How did he treat the actual heads of state in your country? The queen although she as any woman deserves some respect,is only a figure head now and of no consequence to world happenings.

Kembo, bud. I'm 65. In my whole life I have never seen a circus of the absurd as the last 2+ years in the US. From the pres. primaries, to the Russian - rigged election, this Egotistical Moron has made a laughing stock of the once (and long ago at that) powerful and respected nation.
It serves as a sad proof of the minimal intelligence and literacy of the American public, that they would, with all warnings to the contrary, elect such a shame of a leader!

I think it just shows how desperate we were.

I am simply amazed that one person can so negatively influence a nation's standing in the world in such a short time, yet still maintain a roughly 50% approval rating in his own country. Anywhere else in the world there would be riots in the street. Why do they let this happen? Why do they let an elected official simply tell lies? Why?
